Born in France, St. Gabriel Perboyre was baptized on the second day after his birth. He came from a family of eight children: three of the four boys were priests, two went to China on missions; two of the four girls were sisters, and one went to China to serve on a mission. Fr. Gabriel was ordained on Sept. 24, 1826 and went to Macau on Aug. 29, 1835. He later transferred to Hubei. When the emperor announced that religion was forbidden in China, Fr. Gabriel was arrested on Sept. 15, 1839 and was tortured in jail. In April, 1840, Fr. Gabriel was charged with “preaching paganism” and was to be sentenced. On Sept. 11, 1840, the execution day, a miracle occurred. The strength to his body returned and his face started to glow. Fr. Gabriel prayed at the execution ground before he was strangled to death. Fr. Gabriel died at age 38. Many people converted because of the miracle.
聖董文學神父 (St. Gabriel Perboyre) 1802年1月6日誕生於法國。在他的家庭裡﹐四個男孩有三個成了遣使會的神父﹐其中兩位來華傳教。四個女孩中兩位成了仁愛會修修女﹐其中一位前來中國工作。董神父在少年時就矢志加入遣使會﹐到中國去傳教。在 1826 年 9月24日他領受了鐸品。1835年 8月 29日來到中國的澳門﹐然後奉命去湖北武昌。1794年皇帝頒布禁止傳教的諭旨﹐教難大興。1839 年 9月 15日神父被捕﹐每日受鞭打苦行。1840 年4月董神父終以“傳邪教”之罪名被判處絞死。奇怪的事情發生了﹐神父渾身的傷﹐突然的痊癒了。衰弱的身體﹐突然的壯健起來﹐滿臉紅光。人人驚奇。到刑場後﹐神父跪下祈禱﹐然後被絞死享年三十八歲。很多人因此奇跡而歸化。
